Liam Lawson has finally officially been named to take over Daniel Ricciardo’s seat for the rest of the F1 season.
It was a shame to lose the likeable Ricciardo without him having a proper sendoff at the Singapore GP.
The fans knew it was likely his last race, which is how Daniel won the fans votes for F1 Driver of the Day when he was coming in last place of all the running cars. He did pick up the fastest lap at the end of the race which is a nice way to finish.
The All Blacks are back in Wellington tomorrow night to face the Wallabies in the return Bledisloe fixture at 7pm.
Having a 14 point lead at half-time last week gave some fans confidence that they are finally clicking and about to put in a complete performance. This did not happen.
The problem the AB’s are facing at the moment is the game has two halves, and they have not been turning up in the second half like they have been in the first half.
From thinking we can win by 30, to edging out the victory by 3, the mood changed from happiness that it is going well at half-time, to relief the game was over and we were able to hang on for a narrow 3 point win.
We are hoping the ABs can repeat the second game performance against Argentina. After a close first game they come out and put a decent total on them in the second. Wayne Smith has been called into the ABs camp to assist the team. Will the team now be able to score in the last 20 mins of the game?
Argentina had a great upset win over the Springboks last week after being down 17 points early on. The Springboks are bringing back most of the players rested last week, so it will not be a surprise if they can get the job done 13+ this week with the hometown advantage.
Argentina will need a bonus point win, and deny South Africa a bonus point to win the Rugby Championship.
The NRL Finals continue tonight with the Storm hosting the Roosters in Melbourne. This should be the match of the weekend as the Storm are coming off a rest week. They are up against the Roosters who easily dispatched the Sea Eagles 40-16 last weekend.
The Storm had 10 wins and 2 losses at home this season, so we give them the edge tonight, while the odds makers fancy the Storm 13+.
The Saturday game sees the Panthers host the Sharks at Accor stadium. The Panthers easily beat the Roosters in Finals week one when Cleary came back into the side.
The Sharks made a good start last week against the Cowboys. They eased into a big lead before letting the Cowboys back into the game, eventually winning 26-18. They will need a solid 80 minute performance if they want to stay close to the Panthers this week. The Panthers should maul the Sharks 13+.
The White Ferns went down to Australia 3-0 in their T20 series.
The Women’s T20 World Cup starts on 3 October in the United Arab Emirates. The White Ferns have two warm up games against South Africa (ranked 5) and England (2) before their first World Cup game against India (3) on 5 October (3am NZT).
The Blackcaps are struggling at the end of day 1 in the second test against Sri Lanka. After being in the field all day for only 3 wickets while conceding 306 runs, it looks like the chance of a win is out the window.
The Blackcaps will need an improved batting performance in this test. After batting second in the first test they were not able to handle the spin and lost the first test which they had a chance to win.
They will want to ensure they can bat time for a long time and avoid the follow on to reduce the chance of losing this test.
