The NZ government is joining the UK’s Bletchley Declaration on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety.
This is an international agreement around the potential benefits AI offers for society. To ensure this is done in a safe manner, AI must be designed, developed, deployed and used responsibly and safely. It must also be people focused and ensure that it can be trusted.
AI will offer benefits and is being widely implemented, but safe-guards need to be in place. By defining in international agreements the expectations around the development and deployment of AI it will ensure responsible use.
The government will consult publicly on a national AI strategy next year to encourage greater use of AI to deliver better results for New Zealanders.
The aim will be to have a coherent approach around how AI will be viewed and how to get the best benefits to all New Zealanders.
